In 2011, Auli hosted first SAF games .It has most fascinating slopes in the world for winter skiing that is best enjoyed in January to March. The slopes of Auli are perfect for skiing and enough to thrill the professional skiers and novices alike. These slopes are covered with Oak and Deodar forests helping the skiers by reducing the speed of chilling waves. Auli is the must visit for the passionate nature lovers and of course those who are crazy about skiing.

Trekking is other option for the tourists who love this adventure. There are numerous trekking routes in Auli that can take one through verdant valleys, alluring meadows and green pastures. There are 4 ski slopes viz. 10 Number Slope (white) which is 900 meters long while 8 Number Track (Blue) is 800 meters long, Temple Track (Red) for beginners is 400 meters long while Composite Slope is 3.1 km long.

Two international standard ski lifts are also there for the skiers that take them back to the high slopes. One is standing lift that charges Rs 30 per person and other is sitting lift which costs Rs 200 per person. Auli also boasts of worlds highest and Asia’s longest cable car Gondola covering a distance of 4 km that connects it with Joshimath. When you are traveling in lift, the enchanting Himalayas are visible. The round-trip from Auli to Joshimath and Joshimath to Auli will cost you around Rs 500 per person.

Avoid travelling in Monsoons as the region is prone to land sliding during heavy rainfall. Carry heavy woolens in winter season during snowfall.

Reaching Auli By Air: The closest airport to Auli is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun which is 279 km away. Jolly Grant has comfortable connections with the National Capital Delhi and Chandigarh. Private taxis can be hired easily from the Airport to reach Auli.

Reaching Auli By Road:Major cities of the Northern India are joined conveniently by road to Auli. Private and State Transport buses run regularly from the well-known cities of Uttarakhand. Tourists can also reach Auli from Joshimath by Ropeway. Auli is only 14 km from Joshimath which lies on NH-58.

Reaching Auli By Train: Rishikesh is the closest railway station to Auli which is 234 Km away and tourists can easily board trains for Rishikesh from Delhi and other major cities of country. Trains are also available from Haridwar-273 km, Ramnagar-136 km, Kathgodam-141 km and Kotdwara-144 km.
