Jim Corbett is situated in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand at the foothills of Himalayan belt and one of the oldest national parks in India. It was established in 1936 by the name of Hailey National Park and after independence it was named as Ramganga National Park. Later in 1956, it was named Jim Corbett National Park after Jim Corbett - the famous hunter who played a great role in the establishment of this park. This wildlife sanctuary is popular for the Royal Bengal Tiger and acts as a protected area of endangered tigers of India.

Jim Corbett National Park is one of the best and well-managed areas in the country and attracts a number of Indian and foreign tourists every year. It is always advisable to hire safari prior to arrival as there are only 60 vehicles allowed at one-time in the park. There are four gates that act as entrances to the national park. These are: Dhangarhi Gate, Amdanda Gate, Khara Gate and Durga Devi Gate.

The climate in Corbett remains pleasant throughout the year. In summers, the temperature touches 40 degrees Celsius and average temperature is about 30 degrees Celsius. During this season, the tourists can easily move around the park. The major regions of Corbett are closed during monsoons as it’s the mating season for most of the animals. However the Jhirna Gate region is opened throughout the year for the wildlife safari.

During winters, here is a temperature variation of 5 degrees to 25 degree Celsius. Mornings are foggy but these months are best to explore the park and spotting the animals. During this period, park welcomes all the tourists heartily.
