The holy place ‘Devprayag’ is located at an elevation of 830 meters above the sea level and the term Devprayag stands for the ‘Holy Confluence’ in Sanskrit. In actuality, it is the confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda River. It is a small town situated in the Tehri Garhwal region and the area comes under Pauri Garhwal district. It is the last Prayag of Alaknanda River and located on the Bdrinath-Rishikesh Highway.

According to Hindu Mythology, the place has its own religious significance where the holy river Ganga arrives in its real form at Devprayag at the merging point of Bhagirathi and Alkananda Rivers. The holy place is the seat of the Badrinath Dham’s Pandits. The place has divine aura and the devotees can mesmerize in the spirituality of some holy places which are adorned in the Pundal village in Devprayag such as Sangam, Raghunath ji temple, Mata Bhubneshwari temple and Danda Nagaraj. It is the winter home of the priests (Pandas) of Badrinath.

The adventure lovers can indulge themselves in several water sports and adventure activities in Devprayag such as river rafting, rappelling, rock climbing, trekking etc. Raghunath Temple is believed to be 10,000 years old and the town was destroyed in 1803 by an earthquake but restored afterwards. The footsteps of Lord Rama can be found easily at “Ram Kunda” in Devprayag. The holy place Devprayag is also believed to be the prayer ground of maharaja Dashratha and his son Lord Rama. It’s also believed that choosing Devprayag as their holy adobe, Ganga along with other 33 Koti gods and goddesses came to the earth at this place. There are limited places for accommodation in Devprayag but one can easily find out some hotels and guest houses with limited facilities.
